UPEK appoints Gary Martell Chief Financial Officer

Berkeley, CA – April 12, 2006 – UPEK, Inc., the leading supplier of fingerprint authentication solutions, today announced that Gary Martell has joined the company as chief financial officer. Martell brings more than twenty years of experience in finance and operations to the role and will be responsible for leading the company’s finance and administrative functions as UPEK targets its next phase of growth.

Martell was most recently chief financial officer at Orbital Data, Inc., where he set up the initial infrastructure for their Finance, Operations, HR, IT and Customer Support departments. Prior to Orbital Data, Martell was chief operating officer at Cobalt Networks, where he helped the company triple revenues, led the company through its initial public offering and later the sale of Cobalt to Sun Microsystems in 2001, subsequently joining Sun as vice president of network storage operations. Martell spent the ten years prior to Cobalt at Wyse Technology, where he became the company’s chief financial officer and vice president of operations, ultimately taking the company public.
