TCS5 TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor
The most advanced fingerprint sensor
The TCS5, UPEK’s 5th generation fingerprint sensor, is the most advanced silicon fingerprint
sensor available today; designed to enable adoption of fingerprint biometrics across product
lines from security-focused enterprise to convenience-oriented consumer products.
HD3D Sensing
The TCS5 improves on 10 years of R&D that has produced
proprietary technology based on over 40 patents.
Live Layer Sensing – senses both the surface and the
subsurface, or “live layer”, of the skin.
Capacitive Sensing – measures feedback capacitance determined
by the presence of 3-D ridges and valleys of a fingerprint.
Active Pixel (vs. Passive Pixel) – Each pixel has its own amplifier for
a stronger signal to deliver a crisper image.
Large Image Area - 144 pixel-wide sensor scans a larger finger area
than competing swipe sensors.
Dual Plate (vs. Single Plate) – Each pixel contains a transmitter and
receiver for greater sensitivity and more detailed images.
Tri-Mode Sensing (vs. Single mode sensing) – HD3D Sensing utilizes
three modes of sensing - DC, AC, and differential AC - to sense a wider
range of fingerprints under a wider range of conditions.
High Biometric
Performance
High definition sensing enables high biometric
performance, a measure of reliability.
The TCS5 delivers improved biometric performance,
meaning lower false rejects AND false accepts.
At the High Security Level, the False Accept Rate is
0.0007%, or ~1 in 1.4 million |
 |
 |
 |
Easy-to-use
Low False Reject Rate & Zero Failure to Enroll Rate
– Works for virtually anyone in any condition –
old and young, big and small, dry and wet, etc.
Skew adjustment – Compensates for variability
in individual’s swiping technique.
Fast Finger Detect (<2ms) - less delay means less
of the fingerprint image is missed, translating into
less false rejects. |
 |
Secure
Low False Accept Rate – Prevents unauthorized access
Hybrid Minutiae/Pattern algorithm – UPEK algorithms
extract unique features to create a “template” and discard
the fingerprint image to preserve privacy. It is not
possible to recreate a fingerprint image from the
template data.
Anti-spoofing - 3rd generation anti-spoofing technology,
including sensing for live properties of a finger, counters
attempts to fool the sensor with a fake fingerprint. |
Introducing: SteelCoat
protective and aesthetic coating

Robust
Fingerprint sensors need to withstand human interaction
and the elements. The TCS5 offers the most robust fingerprint
sensor on the market:
Scratch Resistant Shield – High sensitivity pixels enable the use
of a hard epoxy protective coating for long, trouble-free operation.
Tested to withstand over 20 million swipes.
ESD Resistance – Withstands IEC 61000-4-2+/- 30kV
Element Protection – Operates in temperatures ranging
from -30°C to +70°C, and from 5% to 93% RH at 30°C. |
 |
|
Sleek & Black
The TCS5 is the first fingerprint sensor designed to meet the
aesthetic requirements of PC manufacturers and end-users.
The 12mm package can fit into any existing design, and the144
pixel sensor is the smallest footprint without sacrificing usability. |
