Swiping technique tips - Good swiping technique is key to making sure the fingerprint reader recognizes you whenever you swipe on your first attempt. Make sure:
- You start swiping with the sensor under your knuckle, not your fingernail
- You swipe towards you in a straight line, with your finger pressed firm against the sensor, and with your finger lying flat.
- Think about letting your elbow glide backwards, instead of bending your finger
Having difficulty? Re-enroll. – If the fingerprint reader is having difficulty recognizing you on your first attempt, try to re-enroll.
- No matter how well you swipe to authenticate yourself, you are always being compared to how you swiped when you enrolled.
- Most people enroll when they are unfamiliar with good swiping technique and don’t have the benefit of practice.
- Read the tips on swiping technique above, watch the video, try some practice swipes, and then re-enroll.
Clean your fingerprint reader – Periodic cleaning ensures optimum performance.
- Dampen a lint-free cloth or cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol.
- Gently rub the cloth horizontally across the sensor surface, starting from the top and moving down until entire sensor area is clean
- Repeat process 2-3 times
- Visually observe that no residual solution remains on the sensor.
